USAID assists Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources in Developing Methodologies to Measure Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction from Improved Energy Efficiency in Power Plants

30 July 2019

USAID Indonesia Clean Energy Development II (USAID ICED II) and UNDP Market Transformation through Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (UNDP MTRE3) are providing technical support to Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Directorate General of Electricity (MEMR DJK) on developing a guidelines on the measurement and reporting of greenhouse gas emission reduction mitigation action from power generation facilities. USAID ICED II and UNDP MTRE3 held a series of focus group discussions to carry out the technical support. On July 29, 2019, USAID ICED II and UNDP MTRE3 held a discussion on developing methodologies and tools on measuring greenhouse gas emission reduction from rehabilitation and efficiency improvements in both State Electricity Company (PLN) and independent power producer (IPP) power plants, as well as reducing losses in the transmission and distribution systems. A total of 30 participants from various directorates in MEMR and technical experts attended the discussion and agreed on methodologies for generation, transmission and distribution. Once the methodologies are finalized, MEMR DJK will submit them to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF) for incorporation into monitoring, reporting and verification of emissions inventory.
