USAID Helps Aceh Local Government Better Understand Rooftop Solar PV Installation

Following Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Regulation No. 49/2018 on rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, Aceh Province has installed rooftop solar PV on their Energy and Mineral Resource (EMR) Office. The province has also allocated funds for rooftop solar PV installation on other government buildings. USAID, through Indonesia Clean Energy Development II (ICED II) is providing technical assistance to Aceh’s EMR Office and local experts. USAID ICED II held a training and workshop that took place on October 29-30, 2019 in Banda Aceh. A total of 78 participants from EMR Office, State Electricity Company (PLN) regional office, Aceh development planning agency (Bappeda) and local experts participated in the workshop. Presenters shared their knowledge on the MEMR regulation and the costs and benefits of rooftop solar PV systems, as well as information on PV system design, financial analysis, and installation registration process with PLN. The participants also visited a local university that has installed rooftop solar PV facility. During the visit they learned that PLN requires facility that are connected to PLN’s grid meet various technical requirements. The EMR Office will give inputs to the governor on rooftop solar PV on government buildings development and also plans to share information on rooftop solar PV with the Aceh’s district governments.
