Local government aligns their energy plan with provincial development plan

5 December 2019

USAID through Indonesia Clean Energy Development II (ICED II) supports the Energy and Mineral Office of South Sulawesi to finalize draft of its provincial energy plan (RUED-P). A focused group discussion (FGD) on the local energy plan took place on October 28, 2019 in Makassar. USAID ICED II has previously assisted the province in developing their RUED-P energy model and in drafting the RUED-P. However, the draft required adjustments to align with the latest mid-term development plan of the province. A total of 21 participants from local government representatives, industrial sector, nongovernment organization (NGO) and academia attended the discussion. To bring national perspective into the discussions, the National Energy Council (DEN) and the Planning Bureau of Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) also participated in the discussions. The FGD compiled inputs and insights that will improve the current RUED-P draft. The local development planning agency (Bappeda) suggested that the energy plan align with the provincial mid-term development plan. State Electricity Company (PLN) Sulawesi Regional Office expressed their interest to conduct joint-planning for electricity access with local energy officials and other stakeholders. And an NGO representative highlighted use of renewable energy for community productive activities, such as post-harvest management. A following discussion will take place in November 2019 to further align the RUED-P data and programs with other energy-related planning documents in South Sulawesi.
