Local utility and government officials learns rural electrification planning

USAID through Indonesia Clean Energy Development II (ICED II) held a three-day training in Makassar from January 29-31, 2020 on rural electrification planning for unserved areas. A total of 55 staff of the Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Office of South Sulawesi and the State Electricity Company (PLN) Regional Office of South, Southeast and West Sulawesi (Sulselrabar).

The training covered verification and synchronization of data collection compiled during a previous training for a sustainable electricity access program. During the second training, the participants learned about the use of Geographcial Inforamtion Systems (GIS), geospatial data, methodology and background in developing the 20kV electricity distribution network data layers. The data layers are very useful for PLN Regional Office of South Sulawesi in preparing their regional electricity development planning. USAID ICED II will facilitate PLN and EMR South Sulawesi needs in order to achieve an agreement on electrification planning in South Sulawesi Province. The previous training that was held on November 26-27, 2019 in Makassar and focused on the alignment of electricity access data and basic skills to generate geospatial maps of these data using open-access geospatial software.
