Utility Exchange Builds Indonesia’s Confidence and Capability

ICED II and USEA successfully held Utility Executive Energy Partnership (UEEP) Reverse Visit to Indonesia for officials from California and Hawaii’s power utilities and regulator on March 12-16, 2018. The objective of the visit was to further expand the opportunity for MEMR and PLN to learn, share experiences, and knowledge with representatives from key stakeholders of the power sector in California and Hawaii on the development and integration of renewable energy.

Participating in the UEEP Reverse Visit 2018 to Indonesia were Dede Subakti, Director of Operations Engineering Services, California Independent System Operator (CAISO), Rajan Mutialu Senior Analyst, Policy and Planning Division, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), Lisa Dangelmaier, Manager of Production Operations and System Planning, Hawaii Electric Light Company (HELCO), Paul Lau, Chief Grid Strategy and Operations Officer, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), accompanied by USEA.

During the visit, the U.S. utilities representatives were engaged in tight agenda, among others discussion at MEMR, courtesy visit to and workshop at PLN headquarter, visit to Load Control Facility of PLN (P2B), and field visit to Sidrap Wind Farm in South Sulawesi, as well as a meeting to review ICED II findings on South Sulawesi and to obtain inputs from U.S. delegates. As follow up, PLN director met with CAISO to get insights and inputs on power purchase agreement (PPA) contract, migration, improving PPA contract, grid management-related issues, coordination with government, negotiations with independent power producers (IPP), and opportunities for internship with CAISO.
