In collaboration with Indonesia’s State Electricity Company (PLN), USAID Indonesia Clean Energy Development II (ICED II) held a “Training Workshop on Methodologies of Interconnection System and Grid Integration Study of Variable Generation Resources, and Transmission System Planning and Analysis” from March 4-8, 2019 in Yogyakarta. A total of 52 staff of PLN and Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) took part in the training.
The methodologies of interconnection system and grid integration will help PLN integrate more renewable energy power plants into grid operation. The studies will ensure reliable, safe and efficient power system operation in accordance with grid code. The studies will also assure that the proposed renewable energy power plants can produce as much power as planned.
The workshop started by the opening by Amir Rosyidin, the Director of Regional Business in Jawa Tengah, PLN.
“This workshop is important to learn. We have to start this study because it is crucial,” stated Amir. He appreciates USAID ICED II support in this training and hoping that this collaboration could continue in the future. Amir also encouraged the participants to learn and take advantage of this workshop to improve PLN.
Afrizal, Head of Sub-division Directorate General of Electricity (DJK), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) explained that the Government is aiming to achieve international standard in energy transformation into clean energy in Indonesia.
“The government, as the regulator, will develop an integration system for electricity distribution efficiency according to the international standard,” stated Afrizal. He emphasized on the importance of collaboration between the government and other stakeholders in order to achieve energy transformation.
The Director of Operations Engineering Services of California ISO, Dede Subakti, also attended the workshop and gave his advice for young engineers.
“We are undergoing unprecedented change. The world is changing, it’s either we are going ahead of the change or dragged by the change.
“This training is designed to strengthen the capacity of PLN in developing impact study like other electricity company in the world. Together with PLN, USAID ICED II will create guidelines for studies on impact of integration of variable renewable energy into international standard procedure. USAID ICED II will provide technical assistance for PLN.
